This week on Nation’s Restaurant News, the top story was “Wendy’s turns its attention to value.” Wendy’s is using a bundled meal offer to start bringing customers back to the brand. The company this week started selling a Dave’s Single combo meal for $7.99, for a limited time. The meal features a Dave’s Single, small fries, and a small soft drink. The Dublin, Ohio-based chain in the process showed off its new yellow packaging, a design the company abandoned in a 2012 rebranding.
In other news, a giant Wendy’s franchisee could close more locations than initially expected. Meritage Hospitality Group, the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based operator, closed another 13 restaurants late last week, bringing the number of locations that have been closed since late September to 33.
Also, Golden Corral is closing more restaurant locations in 2026 than usual, the company confirmed, addressing media reports that at least seven locations of the buffet chain were shuttered.
