Canadian plant-based beverage producer Earth’s Own has added two protein-fortified products to its retail range, Oat Protein and Protein Barista, each carrying 8g of plant protein per serving.
The Oat Protein is positioned for smoothies, cereal and general household use. Earth’s Own says it is the only oat-based beverage sold in Canada at that protein level. Protein Barista is formulated for coffee, both frothed and cold, and contains 80 calories per serving alongside the same 8g of protein. The protein source used in either product has not been disclosed, and the company has not specified the base ingredient for Protein Barista.
Both products are sold at major grocery retailers nationally.
Protein claims arrive in the dairy alternatives aisle
Protein content has become a primary purchase driver in milk and dairy alternatives, a category where oat drinks in particular have historically delivered less protein than dairy or soy. Danone entered the segment in late 2025 with Silk Protein, carrying 13g per serving and rolled out nationally in the US in early 2026. Mintel data cited by Danone at the time put protein-focused innovations at under 1% of launches in the plant-based drinks category, suggesting how little of the category had been built around the claim until recently.

Canadian sourcing and soy processing
Earth’s Own, based in Burnaby, British Columbia, manufactures its beverages and creamers at three sites: Annacis Island in Delta, British Columbia, plus facilities in Mississauga, Ontario, and Quebec City. The company states that its oat products are made with Canadian-grown oats from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The company is also one of four partners in a Protein Industries Canada-backed project announced in November 2024 to build a pilot-scale soy powder facility in Ontario, alongside Alinova Canada, Marusan Ai and Flamaglo Foods. That project carries a total commitment of $23.9 million and involves Earth’s Own testing small batches of the resulting soymilk powder in retail products.
Anna Laul, Brand Manager, stated, “Adding more protein shouldn’t mean settling for a beverage that doesn’t taste or perform the way you expect. With Earth’s Own Oat Protein, we’ve taken the creamy oat experience we’re known for and added a protein boost, without compromising on flavour or performance.”
