True Food Kitchen, McDonald’s, and Domino’s

True Food Kitchen has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The health-food-focused casual-dining chain has closed nearly a quarter of its restaurants and is moving forward with a restructuring after a tough year for the business. True Food Kitchen is seeking a new owner during the proceedings, which will be pursued through a “court supervised sale process.” The Chapter 11 process was initiated less than three months after the company hired ex-Hopdoddy chief Jeff Chandler as CEO, and one year after the brand’s first year of sales declines. The company has secured $20 million through a lender to continue operating throughout the bankruptcy process.

McDonald’s is bottling its pickle brine. The fast-food giant is handing out bottles of pickle juice, which it calls “Pickle Boost,” to runners and spectators at this week’s Chicago Marathon. Some runners will drink a small amount of pickle juice to treat and prevent cramps, though studies about the effectiveness appear to be mixed.

Domino’s is continuing to flex its promotional muscle amid an intense value environment by offering 50% off through October 11 in celebration of National Pizza Month. The offer is good for all pizzas, including the new Domino, whether ordered online, via the app, over the phone, or in-store. This deal is the latest in a string of promotions from the company as competition in the category remains aggressive. Russell Weiner, who just retired as CEO of Domino’s and moved into the executive chairman role, told his pizza peers in April to “bring it on” as they ramped up their deal activity this year. He said Domino’s has an advantage amid such an environment with stronger profitability and scale, as well as a much larger ad budget. Joe Jordan took over as CEO last week after serving as chief operations officer and president of the U.S. market since March 2025. He’s been with Domino’s since 2011.
