Every once in a while, someone puts peanut butter on a burger, declares that it’s surprisingly good, and nevertheless doesn’t make it again. Sometimes they add jelly, too.
On one hand, burgers and PB&Js are quintessential American foods, on the other, well, not all things that are good on their own are good when mashed together.
At any rate, it’s now Logan’s Roadhouse’s turn to carry out this experiment, and the chain’s doing it in partnership with Smucker’s.
The timing seems right, since we’re on the cusp of July 4, celebrating all things American, and other chains are getting in on the action with red, white, and blue and/or fireworks-themed items at Chili’s, Dutch Bros, and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop.
Old Chicago has new Firecracker Shrimp, but that’s more related to spicy food than Independence Day.
Portillo’s is celebrating Chicago by combining a hot dog with giardiniera, and speaking of hot dogs, Dog Haus is playing off of its Big Mac knockoff, the Big Hac, and putting that profile on a sausage.
Red Lobster has its own celebration, CrabFest, and Starbucks is celebrating summer with s’mores-themed drinks.
Cava, which introduced its first seafood, salmon, earlier this year, is now testing shrimp in select markets, and Jollibee has launched chicken nuggets.
La Madeleine is the latest chain to introduce a protein bowl, Jason’s Deli has some Southwest-oriented items, and Potbelly has a Jamaica-inspired sandwich.
Sonic has a new $1.99 snack wrap, Wingstop has a new sauce (and a new proprietary drink; we’ll be seeing more of those), and Hungry Howie’s has a new crust flavor, which is kind of its thing.
It’s Baskin-Robbins’ thing to have seasonal ice cream cakes, Velvet Taco’s thing to have a Weekly Taco feature (this week with burnt ends), and Blue Bottle Coffee has a new way to make iced espresso.
